Shark Hydrovac Water Sensor Repair

Published on: 2025-09-07

Overview & Challenge

The Shark Hydrovac frequently suffers from a faulty water sensor due to a poor seal, causing the PCB to short. Instead of bypassing the sensor (which risks running the pump dry), I diagnosed the failure and replaced the sensor with a sourced component to restore full functionality.

Process

I identified the flooded sensor and sourced a replacement from Alibaba. The new sensor had the wrong connector pitch, so I spliced the old connector onto the new sensor ("Frankenstein" modification) to ensure compatibility.

Results

The device now works without error. The repair was cheaper and more sustainable than buying a new unit, and safer than a software bypass.
